There's enough weirdness in the world that we might as well make a sticky thread for Taxidermy. Kathy, if you disagree, feel free to cast it adrift.

The Unholy Collision of Kathy Garrison and Sam Starfall:

The Whole Goat Bagpipes

The guy's a pretty good piper, too.

OK...there's eccentric, there's weird, and there's downright revolting!

I enjoy the artistry of well-done taxidermy in preserving the image of the once-living creature in a naturalistic pose. It's done with respect.

I can tolerate some of the "humorous" montages where animals have been dressed and posed to simulate human endeavors. Those can be cute, if a little creepy.

The "101 Uses For A Dead Animal" theme, though, should be left to the cartoon books.

Yes, I know, useful items are made out of hides and leather all the time. Except in the case of fur stoles, those generally don't include the face of the previous owner of the pelt.

Sleepy John has been very industrious about finding increasingly weird examples of taxidermy to share with me, so I'll let this thread stand for a while. But I just want to clarify that I'm as horrified by a whole-goat bagpipe as most ordinary folks would be.

What's worse?
The 'Whole Goat' part or the 'Backpipes' part? Twisted Evil

Confused Seriously. If you have to stuff an animal, at least do so in a respectful manner. Give the poor critter some pose that lets it look natural and vivid.

In Soviet Russia, bagpipes eat goat!

Thing is, a goat in pain can sound very much like a bagpipe...

B&W toon Bosko once played a live goat like an accordion, until it sprang a leak.

Hmm. One now wonders if a singing goat would sound something like that... Rolling Eyes Twisted Evil

If it's real, this is cool:

Man picks up pelt at garage sale, may be skin of extinct thylacine.

Actually, there is a fursuit goat who plays the bagpipes...

I've been meaning to share these for a couple days. Some of you have heard, that for the last two weeks I've been teaching band for a teacher who's been out sick. Well, the school's mascot is the bear. Imagine my surprise, though, when I was setting up early-early-early one morning for before-school Jazz Band practice, and I entered the room where the pianos and the drums are stored. Not only are they stored there, but they are well guarded:

I immediately thought, "Wow, Kathy would love to walk in and find this!" Once I got the upright and the drums out, I had to get another pic of the guardian with just the baby grand:

Sadly, though, all of his claws have been broken off. I should ask Moorcat to order some new ones, as the stubs appear to be fibreglass replacements anyway.

You could try ordering from a taxidermy wholesale supply company.

I'd've put drumsticks in his paws and posed him next to the kit...

That's where Moorcat usually gets his claws. Though more recently, he's found someone who makes claws specifically for fursuits.

Next time I'm subbing for Mr. P., I am so borrowing one of the students' sticks... or maybe the Gong Mallet.

Put the bells around his neck and a band hat on his head.
