So after the response to our half-assed goggled panda at San Diego, we decided it might be in our best interest to produce a more accurate version that we could actually sell.
Here's the prototype sketch. Keep in mind the goggles will be grey and green.
The question is, would any of you be interested in buying these if we make them?
Right now we're talking to a company about producing a prototype, but we need to know if we're going to be able to sell enough to cover the initial expense. It's looking right now like it would be priced at around 15-20 bucks, and about the same size as PvP's Skull plush.
People have already asked us why we don't simply buy a bunch of stuffed pandas off some bulk dealer and slap some goggles on. The reasons are twofold. One, it's very difficult to find a decent looking panda toy in the first place, and when you do they're typically going to be about the same price as we'd be paying per piece. And two, goggles are even more difficult to find, and the cost of buying and adding them on would bring it up to about the same as if we just had it custom made from scratch.
I'm pretty sure we can unload a few of these at various conventions throughout the year, especially the anime cons, but these won't be ready before the end of this years con season. The plan is, if there's enough demand, to have them ready for christmas this year.

Yep, would buy it. I said not over twenty, but I'd be willing to go 25. It would look good sitting on top of my PC tower. Especially if it is the same size as Skull, which reminds me that I should get one of those next pay day.

I'd totally buy one of those, provided it isn't anything crazy like $50. Also, it'd have to look at least as cool as the illustration. _________________ Brimstone Zero: What do you stand to lose?

i think those things would look awesome. I'd definitely buy one. i just hope they look as good as the one in SD. if so, i think it would be worth the twenty bucks. keep coming up with ideas like the panda plushie, and you'll be making some good money. _________________ giving directions, without knowing the way

We're looking at approx 7"-9" tall sitting down, so yeah it's about Skull sized.
And no, it won't be over 20 bucks, so don't worry there. In fact, the reason we're asking about 20 is that we may do some kind of promotion where we'd give a couple bucks to a certain charity, such as Child's Play for every one sold. And we wouldn't be able to if the margin was too close. It costs a ridiculous amount to ship these things around to shows and such, so we want to have some leeway.
We just lost close to 80 books coming back from San Diego, due to poor shipping. Future use of insurance aside, if something like that happened with these, there's a good chance we'd be screwed.
Plus, we want it to be as close to our ideal size as possible, and that's likely to be pricey. Bottom line is we either do it right, or not at all.
I said it at Chicago and I will repeat it here. The panda plush is a great idea. You said that more people wanted to buy the panda than the book, and while that is sad, you've got a great marketing piece here. I'd buy one. _________________ Christopher Penzenik - Writer, Illustrator, Sculptor
I'm totally nuts about panda's, so i'll buy one or get my bf to get me one. If you're thinking of charity why not a panda one, I've adopted a panda through wwf.
i think this panda thing is just an awesome idea. maybe if the panda plushie idea works out, you can make some mini al werewolf plushies. those would be sweet! think about it, a whole army of mini al werewolves.
Oh, the possibilities. _________________ giving directions, without knowing the way

Okay, so let me get this straight. You need 200 panda orders in the next week to clear this up. Am I getting that information right? Okay, assuming I am, I only have one question:
Where's the PayPal button, buddy?
I'm also assuming if you don't get the money you need, you can just return it, yeah? So what's the harm in asking? I'd pre-order right now. Damn the consequences!

Also, I didn't notice the suggestion for the mini-Al plushies. As I have an unhealthy obsession with Al and his mini-counterparts that grows each day, I'd also like to cast a "yes" vote on that one. Yay Al dolls!

As much as I want to start taking preorders, I'm not going to accept a dime till I get the prototype in my hands. Especially since paypal still charges a fee for returned funds.
But as soon as I know it's turned out right I'll be pimping it like nobody's business.
Oh, and we may have found a payment solution for getting the initial order made, so the preorders are less immediately critical.
