I'm approaching the end of The Rite of Serfdom at last. There will be about a dozen more pages after the ones I'm drawing now, in which I hope to tie up as many loose ends as possible. But I know I won't be able to catch them all, which is why I want to follow it up with a series of short epilogues. Initially, I wanted to make this a guest-run thing in which other cartoonists could come up with their own answers to readers' nitpicks, unanswered questions and dangling plot lines, but I used up my guest comic karma in December.
So here's what I'll do instead: if you have a question about the 330-ish pages of The Rite of Serfdom, or if you've spotted a mistake or inconsistency that needs resolving, post it here. I will answer it in a single comic page except if it's a big enough issue to become the starting point for a new story Smile
Anything will go: I will have Professor Rásdondr on call to answer questions about the biology of the various species in the Gnomian Republic, and other characters will answer questions on the story's events themselves, the Contention Wars, the Republic's history and the personal backstories of the many minor characters that appeared in the story.
The art style for this sequence will be a little simpler than that of the main story because I will also use the time to revise the story in a few places, fix known problems in the existing pages, write new scripts and generally prepare for the rest of the year.
Also, while this won't be a guest event per se, people who want to turn their quibbles into a comic themselves will be very welcome to do so indeed!

Any plans for borrowing someone else's style again?

I'm betting the style will be Wotchy or Nooby rather than Shivey this time. Cool

Aw, I'd been planning for ghastly.
So, where be the nitpicks? Let's stay on topic for once!

My main nit to pick is that it will take me several hours to pick my way through the nits. The story shaped up very nicely, but as for structure it resembles a gothic cathedral built by Escher. You just can't trust your memory around here, got to re-read the whole thing. An enjoyable exercize to be sure, but have to find the time for it.

So... this nit-seekers first wish is a Readers Diegest version. With links to the relevant chapters.

But if I can find the time... the mere idea of an artist actually asking for requests is tempting beyond belief. Cool

i seem to be a rather bad nitpicker - especially when it comes to comics. it's not that i don't notice them but usually i let it all ride, so the net result is that i never remember these sort of things. i always enjoy reading about them though.

Two questions:
1. We now know about half-faerie humans. What about all the other possible crosses? Half-lupin faeries, half gnomic humans, etc, etc.? Anything interesting and noteworthy there?

2. What is the myth of the Ancestor's bone? Why *does* it have so much power? I believe the reality is that it's some of the ancestors of all the humanoid groups (magical power through arrchaeology!) and that the blood ties are what gives it power over all the groups. But tell us more! What do they *say* the Ancestor's Bones are? Are there myths about 'em? Is it an ancestor of lupins, douards, and humans as well?

What it is about the bones is they make the very best soup in the whole word. And people always respect a good bowl of soup.

Aw, how am I going to turn the nitpicks into comics if DFG is going to keep coming up with the definitive answer to each and every one of them?

When Norla looks at the painting the other day she comments that the painter worked the cross in but I just don't see it.

And what about Fay, doesn't she need a rune of containment cast on her? Or is that going to be another storyline?

Wellp, the first one's been posted. I hope it answers the question. Very Happy

I vaguely recall one other, Douard-related nitpick that was sent to me by email or MSN... but I don't remember what the exact question was or who it was from.
See? That's why I wanted it on the forum. Now people who follow instructions will get preferential treatment over people with possibly more interesting questions who don't Twisted Evil

Finally, yes, I'm also looking at the older nitpick thread.
