[Hey everyone -- Just wanted to post here what plans are afoot for the long-awaited release of SYEW! A little while ago, James asked for my help with a tour and we have since been cooking up ideas which I wrote up in to the following press release-y letter. Let me know what you think and do be in touch with any ideas & suggestions. Feel free also to repost the following wherever might help to get the word out. tx, N]
******************************
Hello friends --
I will be organizing shows to celebrate the release of James Kochalka Superstar's new album, "Spread Your Evil Wings and Fly", to be released on Rykodisc on August 29th, 2006.
This is a particularly exciting event as it will be the widest release yet of music by James Kochalka, a longtime cult hero who is yearly gaining wider recognition for both his critically acclaimed comics and wildly original and exciting music -- most recently with his song "Hockey Monkey" begin picked up as the theme song to FOX's "The Loop", but for years as an underground comics icon. With the help of dedicated fans everywhere and the plans for a release celebration, we are enthusiastically looking forward to bringing James Kochalka's music to as many people as possible.
The release celebration will be as ambitious as James' work and as unique as his fans, involving two parts:
1. Worldwide Album Release Celebration
On Tuesday, August 29 2006, the day of the album's release, we are calling on as many bands as possible all over the world to perform James Kochalka songs and be part of a worldwide celebration. Fans are encouraged to put together impromptu JKS cover bands, hold karaoke/singalong parties etc., and generally use your imagination. We will keep all those participating abreast of evolving plans, help put fans in touch with each other, and serve as a clearinghouse for information, posting pictures & audio of celebrations.
2. Album Release Tour by the band JAMES KOCHALKA SUPERSTAR
Fans rejoice! This will be the first James Kochalka Superstar tour of its kind ever, an extremely rare and unprecedented event! Plans are still being formed, and need your input. While James and the band can't do a major national tour for a number of logistical reasons, we are instead envisioning a series of regional weekend runs during the months of September & October. Naturally, initial plans will be based around the Northeast where the band is located, but we are also looking for offers to bring the band to other regions where Kochalka fans are located. These will need to be significant offers (or combinations of offers) that can provide travel & accommodations for five, in addition to the band's fee. Ideally, we are seeking a linchpin gig from a college, radio station, club, or community arts organization to bring the band to a region, which will allow for other shows in the area.
This is an unusual trip for James & his band, and I'm asking for help from fans to create opportunities and make suggestions. I look forward to hearing from you.
I'm fishing for places in the New York/Hoboken area.
Don't worry: I'll be handling the NYC area shows, along w other NEast cities. Those shouldn't be a problem.
What would really help though, is any suggestions of publicity events in the area that we could do in NYC around the show -- people w radio shows, places for CD signings, in-stores, etc. Either that or suggestions for more out-of-the-way places for shows where JKS fans are located.
This request will probably go un-noticed, perhaps even unfulfilled. But if JKS could make a stop in the Midwest, particularly Omaha, NE (which has a thriving indie scene and a great venue, Sokol Auditorium), I can't imagine it being anywhere near a total disappointment for fans there.

I can't really contribute much to this topic aside from an excited hooray that the album is being released and also I think there's a typo. It says begin instead of what I assume should be being. Just incase anyone is going to re-post this anywhere else and didn't pick up on it.

Not usually that much of a nitpicker when it comes to message boards, but yeah. Good luck planning a killer tour guys!
Not that I have any connections there, but an in-store at Newbury Comics in Boston would make sense .. music and comics! _________________ I write about Nintendo at Infendo.

Will do, James.
Thanks for the suggestions thus far, everyone. Boston is gonna be one of the cities we'll hit for sure and yeah, Newbury comics is a natural. Atlanta and Omaha are great ideas too -- if anyone has contacts there do be in touch at lonesomewhistle@hotmail.com
In short, here's how to help:
1. If you have a friend who is
* a club booker
* a university student on a concert board, or any university organization with funding to bring speakers/acts etc.
* on a community arts organization
* a record store/bookstore owner
etc.
get em stirred up about it and put them in touch w me.
2. Even if you don't know these people, but you sense there's maybe a sympathetic ear somewhere in your town, feel free to copy and send that announcement along (with spelling corrections, thanks!) and a note of your own like Do you know about James Kochalka? Thought you might like to see this... etc you get the picture.

Criminal Records has been very supportive in the past. (I'm pretty good friends with the owner, although we've never met.) _________________ AMERICAN ELF
