To all friends and readers of Sand & Stone, long-time and new alike, thank you. You were part of what made this ride so great.
I'd always had a set story to tell with Sand & Stone, and for the most part that story was told. Still, it was always surprising the ways in which some parts of that plan and the chars have twisted and deviated and craftily chose their own little way -- sometimes even from the beginning. If you only knew how seriously twisted and choppy-up I'd originally planned the whole thing to be, you'd be surprised as I am on how toned down it's turned out to be. (*grin*)
(Yes, yes, "toned down" despite having heads chopped off and all that, but c'mon, that's negligible.)
I don't mean to say that this is the set start-and-end of our chars. I mean exactly what I said at Sand & Stone, that stories have always been going on long before and after we observers happen to pick up the threads of the tale. I mean, there's so much to tell: how did Train and Seth meet, how was that first meeting, how did Train first acquire Majindra, how did they encounter Danica. Or the aftermath: how will Char handle his new kingdom (and, honestly, the first real duty he's in charge of), what mishaps will our fire-happy Hannah and Bob get into, what will become of Moon and Vlad and Ze Mom and Train and Seth, okay, just about every single person there.
But this was the story I set out to tell, and I think I did. I'm happy and satisfied.
And dude, I'm supposed to know what was coming, yet some parts made me giggle helplessly, some parts made me go weepy, even while I was drawing it. That's how well stories and characters can surprise you.
Thanks for being there, readers. You're nifty beans.
