Just a character note here...

Captain Victoria is in the vein of those characters who name themselves after nations, except she's named herself after a state in Australia (ie. Victoria) it would be like having a Captain California, or a Captain Yukon, or a Captain Oxford... you get the idea! Wink

She's dressed in the state colours of blue and silver.

As you may or may not gather from the conversation she's having with Go!Anna, she too is a graduate of Magellan and is currently a team member of Oz Magellan - the local Australian Magellan group (of which there are about 5-6 members).

In fact she is from the same year as Go!Anna.

Her powers are flight, strength and invulnerability (not particularly original, but hey, i'd like to be able to do those things!) - and she's not top league power-wise either, but she's good enough at what she does to be in Oz Magellan! I do have a pic of her which I'll post to the forum later.

No, I don't like the mental image that's coming up. (And I'm FROM Tennessee.)---Al

It's nice to see Go!Anna has no illusions about Woms.

It's even nicer to see she's wrong.

In Australia we have some of the lamest and most uncreative state names ever (some of them aren't even states but 'territories'):
* Queensland: after the Queen, of course)
* New South Wales: its south of England, apparently a bit of it looks like Wales and was 'new' at some point 200 yers ago, so...
* Australian Capital Territory: hey, it's our national capital!
* Victoria: also named after the Queen
* South Australia: its in Australia, and it's south...
* Western Australia: it's in Australia, and it's west...
* Northern Territory: it's in Australia, and it's north...
* Tasmania: the ONLY creative state name (named after a dude called Tasman, but it was originaly called Van Deimans Land)
There is also a Captain New South Wales (my home state) in the Magellan universe... but we won't go there!

it occurs to me that Americans are used to the idea of State Warriors/Defenders due to their various national sports leagues - except that it's teams rather than individuals.

Anyhoo, I promised a pic of the lady, and here she is!

Captain Victoria: aka Vicky Bourke
Team affiliation: Oz Magellan (Australian based Magellan group)
Graduated from Magellan Academy: 2003 (same year as Go!Anna and Freya Foster)
Abilities: g-n+ (born genetically enhanced); strength (x15); invulnerability (x3) and flight (NB. she's not as strong as someone like Wombat-man for example)

I kind of like how this costume design came out especially once I added the colours (silver and blue) which are the Victorian state colours BTW.

I should note that this costume is possibly one of only a very few 'bathing suit' varieties so far depicted in Magellan. At least it's not a cleavage enhancement device... I never could work out how some other companies' superheroines keep their boobs inside their costumes!

Wait, wouldn't that mean she risks injuring herself if her strength is too much greater than her invulnerability? Like Redd?

Oh, here we go. Okay, Redd is x18 strength and x2 invuln. I guess CV is able to operate okay?

sadly, for villain and hero alike, no.
I wonder about PG's 'cleavage window' (frequently) - in the Countdown to Infinite Crisis when Blue Beetle has discovered the secret files on all the various DC superheroes there was an S symbol for supes, a WW for WW, a bat for Bats, and so on and so forth... where was the PG symbol? what would it have been?? cleavage?!

Yep, she's fine. In some other post, somewhere in the forum, I think I rambled on about the multiplication factor and how it's a bit of a complicated mess... being invulnerable to a bullet might not make one invulnerable to radiation or to a witty insult for example. I really need to sort that out before it bites me in my (non-invulnerable) butt!

Is it sad that this character reminds of DC's pretty well forgotten Yankee Poodle? http://faans.com/carrot4.html

On second thought, I pretty well know it is.

ha! well any resemblance is unintentional, but you're right there is a bizarre similarity... at least she doesn't look like Fara Foxette. Razz

and with the most recent update, captain victoria zips off on other matters - but she will be back later in the current story. she does have a purpose, honest!

i hope this chapter doesn't seem too scattered or unfocused - there's one more base for Go! to touch before things kick it up a notch or three...

You know, it's no wonder Go's reputation is suffering. Threatening to beat a civilian to a bloody pulp doesn't do you a lot of good.

yeah she is a bit on the cranky side... but to be fair on her the kid wanted to watch her beat the crap out of someone else who wasn't actually hurting him anyway... just looking a bit freaky ain't grounds for a beating... Wink

i am a bit concerned about her coming across as a continual sour puss, but she doesn't suffer fools well i guess. deep down she's got a heart of gold but over the years with all the horrible stuff she's seen creeps do to other people she's become a bit jaded. she might get a chance to lighten up but it probably won't be in the current chapter...
